Conventional Conductor Materials
Conventional Conductor Materials
Conventional conductor materials such as aluminium and copper are usually normal materials capable of being welded. However all power cables are designed with water blocking powder and absorbent swelling tapes which makes it almost impossible to weld directly on cables without the necessary precaution. Today’s standard is to open up the cable end, remove the compounds, subsequent re-collect all wires and finally reshape the conductor to its original form. Hereafter the manual welding procedure can be initiated. While the welding quality is extremely technician dependent, the jointer must at the same time continuously monitor the temperature of the conductor and prevent overheating potentially damaging the XLPE insulation. This can possible influence the quality of the joint.
